Shed Permit Requirements

Under 300 sq. ft., no utilities: Zoning Permit Application

Under 300 sq. ft., with utilities (electric or water): Building Permit Application

Over 300 sq. ft. (with or without utilities): Building Permit Application
Please submit the permit application, payment, and a plot plan of the property showing where the shed is going to be installed. Please provide a detailed drawing including the location of your house and any other structures (garage, pool, shed, etc.), the proposed location of the shed, property lot lines, location of septic system, wells, and any pipelines that go through the property. If the shed will be constructed on-site, please also include detailed construction drawings.
Forms may be mailed or hand delivered at the township office, or or e-mailed to Edgmontadmin@edgmont.org. All permit applications must be signed by the property owner. The Township does not accept permits without payment. Please note that if the property is governed by an HOA, an approval letter from the HOA is required prior to permit issuance.
Payments can be made HERE. For online payment, under 'Select Payment Item' select Permits. In the 'Type of Permit' list the property address.
Placement Requirements
A shed is considered an accessory structure and may not be placed in the front yard, except under special circumstances.

In most residential zoning districts, the shed must be at least 15 feet from the side and rear property lines.

In the R5 district, the minimum setback is 20 feet.
Shed Base
The Township does not have specific requirements for the shed base. However, it is recommended that sheds be placed on 4–6 inches of stone or on a concrete pad for stability and drainage.
