Fence Permits
Fence Permit Requirements
For any type of fence permit, you must first obtain a zoning permit. Please submit the following:
-
A completed zoning permit application - CLICK HERE
-
Payment - can be made HERE. For online payment, under 'Select Payment Item' select Permits. In the 'Type of Permit' list the property address.
-
A plot plan of the property showing where the fence will be installed
The plot plan may be hand-drawn but must include:
-
The location of your house and any other structures (garage, shed, pool, etc.)
-
The proposed location of the fence
-
Property lot lines
-
The location of the septic system and any wells
-
The location of any pipelines that run through the property
Miscellaneous Fence Rules
-
For any fence over 6 feet in height, the portion exceeding 6 feet must have an open-to-solid ratio of at least 4 to 1 (e.g., lattice-style).
-
Fences can be placed on your property line, as they may define a property boundary. Please ensure you know the exact location of your property line before installation.
-
Fences may not be erected where they obstruct the line of sight for drivers traveling along the street or entering/exiting a driveway.
-
A fence may not be installed within the street right-of-way.
-
The Township does not regulate the color or material of your fence; however, your homeowner’s association (HOA) might. Please note that if the property is governed by an HOA, an approval letter from the HOA is required prior to permit issuance.
-
You must call 811 to make a PA One Call before you dig to have your utilities marked.
